December 2012:

Punchd is shutting down and being removed from the App Store and Google Play on June 7th, 2013.

Will my Punchd cards still work?

Fear not! You have 6 months to collect punches and redeem rewards at your favorite Punchd merchants. However, on June 7th, 2013, the app will be discontinued. You won’t be able to collect new punches and businesses will no longer honor your punches or give rewards.

Why are you closing Punchd?

Our goal is to simplify and improve the Google experience for you and devote more resources to high-impact products. Over a year ago, Punchd was acquired by Google, and since then the team has been working to integrate Punchd features and ideas into other Google products. Little Salon #1 - Orange

Last night was the first Little Salon: dinner & conversation.

3 people were invited, and they were all asked to bring a friend. Everyone was asked to share something that they found interesting about “orange”.

The stories:

@jamjar - the story of that one time when humans discovered scurvy.

@stefanitza - the story of how the Human Services industry gravitates towards orange as their colour.

@nedfairlie - the story of how he donated plasma and was subsequently roped into Little Salon.

@sealfur - the story of how Jon Spencer Blues Explosion shows exposed him to bands he now loves - but would never have discovered otherwise // and how the things you love can open doors to new, lovely experiences.

@lyndal7 - the story of mandarins and Chinese New Year.

@ycnt_ibdonlyjen - the story of orange being her favourite colour, and her investigation into its symbolism and why she loves it.

Anthea - the story of how black boxes in planes are actually orange.

me - the story of a Creative Mornings talk about creativity, where we learned that seeing nature (plants or pictures of nature) and seeing warm colours can both increase levels of creativity and the quality of creative ideas.

It was honestly a splendid evening, and I can’t believe I was so chicken about the idea for so long, and I am now looking forward to Little Salon #2 - Puzzle.

I used to get a giggle out of Clients From Hell, but now I just see it as Creatives Who Don’t Really Understand Their Jobs.
Who writes 60,000 words for a client without agreeing on a Style Guide? Someone who needs to learn an important lesson, that’s who.

I just read a whole bunch of Clients from Hell and I just don’t find it funny at all. I find it stressful. I empathise too much with the frustrated designers and I weep for the ignorance of the clients.

So many of these stories are about people with inferiority complexes jockeying for authority.

None of the people in these stories are learning anything, nor are they putting themselves in a position/mindset in which they will learn. That’s the saddest part.
